"Encounter at Hangar 18" is part of our favorite sitcom "The Big Bang Theory" on CBS!

How they are made

First, we come up with an idea, make a pencil sketch then scan that drawing into the computer.   In a graphics program we add colors, textures and further details. Once that is done, the drawings are sent to a sculptor who brings the drawings to life in clay in 3D.  The models are approved, then the hand coloring is added.  Each piece is a one-of-a-kind work of art.

We are located in upstate New York and personally inspect and ship every item.  New designs are always being made.  Check back often.

About the artist

Roger L. Phillips is a product designer and illustrator with over 19 years of experience working in the creative field.  The idea for the Close Encounters Series came from his father who is an avid astronomer and science fiction enthusiast.

Close Encounters Studios was born on July 9, 2010.  To celebrate, we had a cake made just for the occasion:
